about

Begun in 2005 by John Catania and Charles Ignacio, Chillfest is dedicated to screening moving image art forms that express and celebrate the LGBTQ+ experience, and to recognizing the creative work of LGBTQ+ filmmakers. Chillfest is a sponsored project of New York Foundation for the Arts, a 501(c)3 organization.

In addition to Chillfest, John and Charles were longtime producers for the groundbreaking LGBTQ+ television newsmagazine In the Life that aired on PBS stations across America for two decades from 1992 to 2012. They also produced the feature films The Boys of Manchester: On the Set of ‘Queer as Folk,’ and The Lady in Question is Charles Busch; the latter was recognized as Best Documentary by the International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in 2006 and broadcast on Sundance Channel and Thirteen/WNET.

Chillfest will be joining with Stonewall National Museum & Archives to present a monthly Film Club in 2022 & 2023. Members will screen films at home and then gather on Zoom to discuss and critique. To sign up, please email Inquiry@stonewall-museum.org.
